Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko registered their first win of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season after pipping Legon Cities FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening.
The Porcupine Warriors bagged all three points thanks to a 10th minute strike from young striker Osman Ibrahim.
The 21-year-old found himself unmarked in space as he fired past a hapless Fatau Dauda who was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Match.
Maxwell Konadu’s side had picked just 2 points from their opening 2 games of the season – against Berekum Chelsea and Eleven Wonders.
The match generated huge talks among Ghana Premier League following as Kotoko came face-to-face with Asamoah Gyan. Kotoko tried to sign the former Stade de Rennes and Sunderland striker but the two sides failed to reach a deal leading to massive backlash from the Kotoko following on social media and traditional radio.
Despite failing to threaten the Kotoko goal in the first-half former Planners Athletic Club striker Raphael Ocloo was presented with two golden opportunities in the second-half but he fluffed his lines.
Winger Emmanuel Gyamfi could have doubled the lead for the Warriors in the dying embers of the game when he came on a 1v1 situation with Dauda but he failed to beat the 2014 FIFA World Cup Ghana goalkeeper.
The latest defeat means Cities are without a win in their opening 5 games of the season though they picked impressive results against Dreams FC in matchday four.
