An Airport in Cape Coast is a patently bad idea – Kofi Bentil

Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil has condemned the government’s intentions to build an airport for the people of Cape Coast in order to boost tourism and economic activities in the region.

Speaking at an event held at the New Examination Hall of the University of Cape Coast to launch of the NPP’s manifesto, the Vice President of Ghana said the people of the Central Region will be blessed with a new airport and harbor if the NPP is given a second term to govern Ghana.

He said “We are going to build a new harbor and a new airport in Cape Coast. It is very critical…that the central region gets it own airport”.

But reacting to this promise by the government, Kofi Bentil who is with IMANI believes that it’s a misplaced priority by the government to promise the people of the Central region an airport when only 1% of people who are rich will be using it whiles the majority continue to be killed by the bad roads.

He said “I come from Cape Coast. An Airport in Cape Coast is a patently bad idea and anyone suggesting that has totally lost it. You want to fly planes for the rich 1% when you have a dangerous road claiming lives every year”.

To him, it’s imperative that the government rather dualize the roads and also introduce railways to aid in swift movement to and from the Central region.

“You won’t simply dualize the road and then put rail beside it for the masses!!! What thinking makes you leave that and rather build an airport? If Cape Coast road was dualized and straightened. It would be safe to drive there within 45 minutes in an average car.”

I come from Cape Coast
An Airport in Cape Coast is a patently bad idea and anyone suggesting that has totally lost it.

You want to fly planes for the rich 1% when you have a dangerous road claiming lives every year.

You won’t simply dualise the road and then put rail beside it for the masses!!! What thinking makes you leave that and rather build an airport?

If cape coast road was dualised and straightened. It would be safe to drive there within 45 minutes in an average car.

To fly to Cape Coast from Accra would cost you
30 minutes to the airport
1 hour at the airport checking in and boarding.
15 minutes of flight plus
30 minutes to get your luggage and leave the airport.

It will be faster to just drive!!!
